The UKEV Collaboration Award is designed to support new collaborations between early career researchers (the applicants) and researchers at other UK-based institutions. The award is intended to facilitate collaborations which are not currently supported by other funding streams and could include visits to a collaborators lab or enable access to key laboratory equipment outside of the applicants institution.

The UKEV Collaboration Award is intended for technicians, PhD students and early-stage postdoctoral researchers (≤ five years, excluding career breaks). There may be some exceptions, for example, suitable applications from master’s students. This will be at the discretion of the UKEV Panel. As a prerequisite, applicants will need to be members of UKEV.

The Collaboration Award is for £1000 to cover laboratory consumables plus bench/access fees. Applicants can, where needed, also request up to an additional £1000 for travel and subsistence. Such requests need to be justified within the application and the total requested funds must not exceed £2000.

Process:

  1. Contact your proposed host lab directly to discuss the nature of the visit and the proposed work to be completed.
  2. Contact the Host lab and discuss the potential for collaboration. Have a CV ready!
  3. Apply for the UKEV Collaboration Award through the specific forms found here.

Applications will open on the 18th October and close on the 18th November. It is anticipated that successful applicants will be informed within one month of the closing date and will be able to plan their visit immediately after that. The UKEV Collaboration Award funds will be paid by BACS into the recipients’ bank account on production of a completed expenses form, together with suitable receipts for travel and subsistence, at the end of the placement.

Successful applicants will be expected to write a short summary of the work they carried out and how the Collaboration Award benefited them, which will be published within the UKEV newsletter and on the UKEV website and may be used for publicity purposes on UKEV social media and in other outlets.
